Kraken Borrow US Offers Triple Buying Power In 48 States
Kraken has officially launched Kraken Borrow US, a new crypto borrowing service that provides eligible retail customers with up to three times buying power on their existing crypto holdings. The product, announced through Kraken's official channels, allows users to borrow against their digital assets rather than selling them, effectively amplifying their purchasing capacity for additional crypto positions. The service is designed to integrate directly with Kraken's existing platform infrastructure, meaning customers can access the borrowing feature without needing to transfer funds to a separate venue or create a new account structure.
Kraken Borrow US is available to eligible customers in 48 states, with the company confirming that the service is not offered in all US jurisdictions. The two excluded states are Maine and New York, both of which have historically maintained stricter regulatory stances toward crypto lending products. Kraken's exclusion of Maine follows the company's April 2025 announcement that it would no longer serve clients residing in that state, with a withdrawal deadline of April 12, 2025, for existing customers.
Kraken Borrow US accepts a broad range of crypto assets as collateral, with the company's margin trading platform supporting more than 48 eligible crypto assets. This includes major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as stablecoins and a selection of altcoins. The collateral requirement means customers do not need to liquidate their existing positions to access buying power, a feature Kraken has highlighted as a key differentiator.
The launch follows Kraken's introduction of spot margin trading for eligible US retail users on Kraken Pro, which offered up to 10x leverage without requiring accredited investor status. That May 2025 rollout was itself a landmark moment, as it brought leveraged crypto trading onshore for retail customers in a regulated environment.
